Cavitation Tunnel

The NRC cavitation tunnel is a closed recirculation tunnel used to test propeller performance in uniform and non-uniform flows. It has a working test section 2.2 m long and 0.5 m square.

What we offer

The cavitation tunnel is designed to measure forces and pressure distributions on rudders, fins, hydrofoils, cable fairings, submerged bodies and hull appendages. The drive system is a four-blade axial flow impeller with digital control (56 kW, 1500 rpm). Maximum velocity at the working section is 9 m/s, with absolute pressures of 5.7 to 102 kPa available normally and up to 200 kPa with specialized modifications. Cavitation number range is: sigma – 0.8 to 3.0; J – 0.5 to 1.5. Propeller or model sizes range from 130 to 250 mm (200 mm typical). A Kempf & Remmers H39 open dynamometer is top mounted in the test section with thrust range ± 900 N and torque range ± 45 Nm.
