Pharmacological and toxicological characterization

Technical service highlights

The Natural Health Product Program (NHP) offers non-GLP ADME, pharmacological and toxicological solutions to enable ingredient and product development, and reduce product development timelines.

What we offer

Combining ingredients that have known benefits is not enough to ensure they work together. The best products are supported by formulation, bioavailability, and pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics studies, that determine the ideal combinations, dose amounts and dosing periods for optimal efficacy at the smallest dose. Partners working with our NHP Program team will receive advanced support for pre-clinical testing of ingredients and product formulations. Our high content screening assays can assist with bioactivity characterization, efficacy and safety assessment. Other research services currently available include testing for cytotoxicity of ingredients in cell based assays, metabolic stability, bioavailability, dose optimization, formulation testing, and efficacy studies in pre-clinical disease models.

Specific areas of expertise

  • Ingredient and formulation safety and efficacy evaluation
  • In vitro and in vivo bioavailability studies
  • Product differentiation studies (bioavailability and efficacy)
  • Pre-clinical evaluation in cell based and in vivo models
  • Dose optimization and determination of safety window
  • Safety assessment- Cytotoxicity, phototoxicity, drug-drug interactions, in vivo telemetry, non-GLP in vivo toxicology

Why work with us

We assess ingredient efficacy and mechanism of action, and provide preclinical, non GLP safety pharmacology and toxicology services to de risk product development. Our research experts design, validate and run novel in vitro and in vivo assays to identify new bioactive and functional ingredients, as well as additional activities for existing ingredients.

Fees

We offer specialized services at competitive rates, which include the support of scientific and technical experts and full range of analytical capabilities. We also offer the opportunity for collaboration and/or for our partners to co-locate with us. Contact us to take advantage of our Canada-wide networking, research and development, as well as business development opportunities.
