2. Scope of Evaluation

Innovative Products do not meet the NBC acceptable solution requirements for their intended use (i.e. this is a new kind of product or use which the building code does not currently address). In this case, CCMC will develop a set of criteria to evaluate your product that demonstrates the ability of the product to meet the objective and functional statements of the code.

Standardized Products meet the NBC acceptable solution requirements for their intended use (i.e. there is a codified requirement or Standard which your product can be evaluated against). In this case CCMC will provide a verification that your product meets the requirements of the code.

Please fill out ONLY ONE of the application sub-forms posted under the tabs labelled “Tab 1 - Innovative Products” and “Tab 2 - Standardized Products”.

Innovative Products do not meet the NBC acceptable solution requirements for their intended use.

CCMC will conduct a code analysis based on the selections you make below, and will evaluate your product to the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) as an alternative solution. If an appropriate CCMC Technical Guide currently exists, CCMC will evaluate your product to those requirements. If not, a CCMC Technical Guide will need to be developed under contract with NRC, utilizing researchers and facilities at NRC, and in some cases, consulting subject matter experts.

Upon completion of the development of a CCMC Technical Guide, you may need to have some testing conducted by an accredited 3rd party laboratory. Once you have demonstrated compliance to the CCMC Technical Guide, CCMC will publish a CCMC Evaluation to provide evidence to Building Officials, specifiers and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction that your product meets the objective and functional requirements of the NBC as an alternative solution.

Please select the sections of the NBC that CCMC should consider in evaluating your innovative product.

Note: The broader the scope of the evaluation the more costly it may become.

Please indicate if you are aware of any similar products already evaluated by CCMC

Standardized Products meet the NBC acceptable solution requirements for their intended use.

CCMC will verify that your product meets the requirements of the acceptable solution and will publish a CCMC Evaluation to provide evidence to Building Officials, specifiers and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction that your product met the acceptable solution requirements of the NBC.
