This competency profile has been prepared in support of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) Entrepreneurship Program, and represents those key behavioural competencies that support employees in making a successful transition to entrepreneurship in a technology or science-based business venture. This profile was prepared based on interviews with former NRC employees who have made, or are in the process of making, the transition to entrepreneurship, as well as on a review of the literature on those behavioural competencies that contribute to success in technology or science-based business ventures.

Interpersonal and team-building: Building, leading and working effectively within work teams.
Business focus: Setting direction and operating in keeping with an understanding of the industry or economic sector; focusing efforts on bringing value to the customer.
