United Kingdom July 18, 2018

Iain Stewart, NRC President with Dr. Ian Campbell, Executive Chair of Innovate UK signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the NRC, at Canada House in London.

On July 18th, the NRC and UKRI signed an MoU that will provide the foundation for the development of a stronger science, technology and innovation relationship between our two institutions. One of the first activities to be launched under this new agreement is a NRC-UKRI Call for Proposals with matched funds from both sides totaling approximately $1.8M CAD.

Canada - EUREKA Association Agreement Renewal May 21, 2018

On May 20-23, 2018, the NRC participated in the EUREKA Innovation Days (Helsinki, Finland) and signed an association agreement renewal to maintain and further develop the NRC's relationship with EUREKA partners. Canada, through the NRC, is an associate member of the EUREKA network.

China May 9-10, 2018

China delegation led by Dr. Yuntao Zhang, Assistant to President China National Biotec Group (CNBG) was hosted on May 9 and 10, 2018 by Dr. Roman Szumski at the NRC for the 4th Annual NRC-CNBG Steering Committee meeting held in Ottawa to review the progress, challenges, and achievements of the current collaborative research projects to enhance vaccine development and discuss new potential research collaborations and business opportunities.

On April 26, 2018, the NRC, along with the RSC and CIFAR co-hosted the G7 Research Summit on Our Digital Future to discuss the development of emerging digital technologies and how the benefits of these advancements can be distributed equally within and across societies. The event brought together more than 200 Canadian and international science, technology and innovation stakeholders across academic, government and industry.

Canada-UK Quantum Technology Workshop - March 19, 2018

On March 19, 2018, the NRC welcomed a United Kingdom (UK) Expert Mission in Quantum Technologies, led by Sir Peter Knight, Emeritus Professor at Imperial College London, Chair of the NPL Quantum Metrology Institute and member of the UK National Quantum Technology Strategy Board. The NRC a hosted a Canada-UK Quantum Technology workshop, chaired by VP Emerging Technologies, Dr. Geneviève Tanguay, which brought together key Quantum Technology stakeholders from across Canada, including participants from government, academia and industry.

USA March 5-7, 2018

VP François Cordeau tours the National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) hosted by Commander Robert Toth, Associate Director for Business Development in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The visit focused on understanding of manufacturing initiatives, sharing manufacturing technology development focus areas and discussing potential common areas of interest and possible mechanisms to support effective bilateral collaboration between Canada and the United States.

Germany January 26 to February 2, 2018

Right: NRC President Iain Stewart with Martin Reichl, Director/CEO, Bavarian Research Alliance GmbH (BayFOR). Two MoU signing ceremonies recently took place between the NRC and BayFOR, as well as the NRC and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The MoUs opened the door for enhanced collaboration between key German partners and the NRC, particularly, in aerospace and energy. The visit also included a visit to Aachen, where President Iain Stewart participated in NRC-focused business meetings with officials from Aachen University.

European Union (EU) Delegation to Canada

Canada-Swiss MedTech Partnering Event

The Canadian Medical Technologies sector delegation participated in the MedTech Partnering Event in Basel, Switzerland, on November 18, 2014. This event was part of the EUREKA Innovation Event and Swiss Innovation Forum which took place there. Canada's EUREKA office, under the auspices of NRC, led a delegation of about 20 Canadian companies in the medical technologies field to promote partnering with Swiss companies.
