Thomas (Tom) Jenkins
Chair, NRC Council
Mr. Jenkins is Chairman of OpenText Corporation in Waterloo, Ontario. He is also an Executive Fellow at the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary. In 2011 he chaired the panel responsible for reviewing federal investments in R&D. The panel's recommendations helped inform the Government of Canada's commitment to improving its support for innovation in Canada. In 2013, Tom also led the panel that produced a report on defence procurement for the Government, which included recommendations to leverage support for Canadian industry. Tom is a member of several boards, including the Government of Canada's Advisory Panel on Open Government, the C.D. Howe Institute, the Canadian Council of Chief Executives and Thomson Reuters. He is also one of the founders of Communitech, Waterloo Region's technology association.
Mr. Jenkins holds a Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University, a Master of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Engineering Physics and Management from McMaster University.
Mr. Jenkins was initially appointed to NRC Council in December 2013 and was subsequently appointed Chair in February 2015.
