CCMC evaluation services
What are evaluations?
An evaluation is an impartial, technical opinion. On the building side, that opinion often relates to the requirements of the National Building Code of Canada and of provincial codes.
For products for which specific standards exist, industry often relies on CCMC's evaluations to demonstrate conformity. Opinions on these products are published in Evaluation Listings.
For products for which no specific standards exist, the CCMC provides evaluations, which are undertaken for products that are manufactured, assembled, or processed at a particular site or manufacturing facility; they apply only to those products. The resulting Evaluation Reports and Evaluation Listings specify the ways in which the products are to be used for the evaluation to be valid.
Recognition of CCMC evaluations
Provinces and territories
Members of the Provincial/Territorial Policy Advisory Committee on Codes (PTPACC), composed of senior officials from provincial and territorial departments responsible for building regulation, recognize CCMC evaluations as a useful basis for determining the acceptability of products within the context of building code requirements under their jurisdictions.
The acceptance of individual CCMC evaluations is made on an individual basis by the appropriate jurisdictions. No jurisdiction is bound to accept CCMC Reports.
In Ontario, the CCMC is the only organization designated as a materials evaluation body for the purposes of supporting Minister's Rulings on innovative materials, systems and building designs under the Building Code Act.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation permits the use of CCMC evaluated products in construction financed or insured under the National Housing Act.

Innovative construction products that have been shown to comply with CCMC-developed requirements will be considered by PWGSC on a case-by-case basis.
