The timeline for the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) business review, shown below, indicates the phases of the project. Short descriptions for each component are provided underneath.

PHASE 1
Internal diagnosis
Interviews with key staff to define CCMC's role, mandate, services, processes,
strengths and weaknesses. COMPLETED
Environmental scan
Looking at CCMC's place within the external environment to identify future trends
(political, technological, economic and social) that could be threats or opportunities.
Inputs will come from websites, news and analyst reports, and interviews with
stakeholders. COMPLETED
Survey
Gathering quantitative data and identifying
stakeholder needs from four main groups: ministry officials responsible for
construction policy, building officials, manufacturers, and other interested
parties (laboratories, universities, consultants, builders).

For ministry officials, contact will be through one-on-one telephone interviews. COMPLETED
Manufacturers, building officials and other interested parties will be asked to completed a web-based survey. Web site to be developed by Brio Conseils. E-mails will be sent out providing registration details, as well as the URL for the survey. COMPLETED
Report
Brio Conseils to analyze the data collected, boil it down, and provide a report
in September. This report will form basis for Phase 2 consultations.

PHASE 2
Design
Planning stage for focus groups to be held across the country from late
September to early November. Focus group meetings will consist
of half-day workshops (afternoon or evening) in five locations: Halifax, Montreal,
Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. Attendance by invitation only and will include
representation from manufacturers, building officials, provincial ministries and
other stakeholders. COMPLETED
Consultation
Focus group meetings to explore issues,
evaluate specific concepts, and validate Phase 1 results.

Report
Interim report prepared in late December/early
January that will present all findings to date.
COMPLETED
PHASE 3
Validation
Business review project team, comprising representatives from provincial ministries,
regulatory authorities, and manufacturers – as well as NRC and the Chair of the
Canadian Commission on Construction Materials Evaluation (CCCME) – to review results,
prioritize the findings into groups of ideas, and make recommendations on what can
be moved forward on. COMPLETED
Report
Final report in March 2010 to provide prioritized list of recommendations. Will
be submitted to the CCCME for review before going to NRC-IRC management for final
decision-making. COMPLETED
