The NRC-CNBC's neutron beams are available for industrial researchers to conduct proprietary research through ANDI without being an expert in the field.
Performing an ANDI project
You must consult with one of our experts to develop a scope of work that will be defined in a research contract. You will ship the specimen(s) to the CNBC for neutron diffraction analysis. CNBC scientists and technicians perform the specified measurements, deliver a report to you and return the specimen. The information contained in an ANDI report is protected as your property.
Doing Business Proprietary research undertaken at the laboratory is carried out within the following framework.
- CNBC reserves the right to decline a project for any reason.
- All experimental work and data reduction with error analysis will be performed by CNBC staff at standard rates for facility and personnel. The deliverable will be a report with data, uncertainty estimates, and statements about the reliability of the data. Subsequent application/interpretation of the data will be the responsibility of the client.
- The client will be allowed and encouraged to provide input to the course of the experiment as it progresses, either in person or via electronic communications.
- Full disclosure must be made of specimen details including design of sample holders, dimensions, proposed locations of measurements, sample history, and any other information, as reasonably requested by CNBC staff to evaluate the feasibility of the measurements and to advise on a scope of work. A standard non-disclosure agreement may be signed in advance of any information exchange if the samples are proprietary in nature.
- The normal mode of business will be through a fixed-price Agreement for Standard Services. However, if the client wishes to maintain some flexibility in extending or reducing the scope of work, the agreement for standard services can be set up on the basis of an estimate for the original proposed scope of work.
- CNBC will not schedule time on an instrument or any other staff commitment (including in-house design work, etc.) until the scope of work is settled and appended to the Agreement and signed by the client. Scheduling will be arranged on a best-efforts basis to accommodate the needs of the client vis-à-vis other CNBC priorities.
Pricing
Project prices are estimated on the basis of standard hourly rates for personnel and facility access, to ensure full cost recovery. Charges for material consumption, shipping, and incidental services, if any, are also billed to recover cost. Canadian clients are charged a goods and services tax (GST 5%).
