The aim of this project is to address the needs of the e-Learning industry by creating a framework structure (software toolset) to increase productivity for the development of various content forms. In addition to integrating multimedia production and project management exemplary practices/processes, SynergiC3 will offer functionalities that will facilitate Collaboration, Communication and Coordination of activities related to content creation (hence the C3). This can be achieved, in part, through the integration of workflows, accelerators, wizards and communication bridges.
The proposed toolset is directed at e-Learning content development teams but would be beneficial to various other industries whose core activities revolve around digital content creation (e.g. film and gaming). For example, there are pressing needs for accelerating development to deliver just-in-time training, e.g. within hours of an outbreak, training for specific medical treatment is often required by thousands of medical professionals.
The exploratory phases of this project started in 2003 but recent funding by the ACOA AIF has enabled us to plan an accelerated R&D phase as of late 2006.
The project is expected to end in 2010.
With increased access to broadband connectivity comes a growing demand for rich and interactive content. This demand manifests itself in many areas of human activity, especially in the education and training industries. The e-Learning industry does not currently offer workflow-type tools to create content efficiently at a lesser cost without compromising quality. Current content development estimates vary from 10 to 100 hours of multimedia development time to produce one hour of online training. The development estimates for animations and simulations are even greater, with estimates ranging as high as 750:1 to 1250:1. It is worthwhile noting that these estimates vary a great deal since the nature of the final content (text, images, graphics, animations, etc.) can take various shapes and forms: the richer and more interactive the content, the longer the development time, therefore the higher the costs. There is thus a need for new and innovative tools to accelerate deployment of rich content for cost conscious organizations.
The innovative features of SynergiC3 reside mainly in the integration of automated processes to ensure collaboration, communication and coordination of efforts in a multidisciplinary development team. The results of this project will be:
