Hydrodynamic models simulate free surface flows in lakes, estuaries, bays, coastal areas and seas. Using either finite difference or finite element compuational grids, the main results at each node of the grid are the depth of water and the depth-averaged velocity components. Associated phenomena which is considered include long wave propagation, tides, flooding and drying of areas, turbulence, bed friction, and meteorological factors such as wind.
