Under contract to W.F. Baird & Associates , the Canadian Hydraulics Centre undertook a physical model study of a ship to be used as a floating casino. The concern was whether the motions of the ship would be within acceptable limits during the various storm conditions.
Physical simulation of moored ship motions and mooring loads
The primary objective of the tests was to measure the six- degrees-of-freedom motion of the vessel, and assess whether these motions would cause any discomfort to the passengers.
This was achieved by taking the motion data obtained from the physical model, to the Marine Simulator in St. John's Newfoundland, where it was possible to assess human response by asking some volunteers to stand on a platform which was made to follow the full-scale motions of the vessel.
