Canadian Neutron Beam Centre (CNBC)

The CNBC, a national facility at Chalk River, Ontario, enables Canadian researchers to exploit innovative neutron beam instruments and methods for world-class materials research. Neutrons are a gentle but penetrating probe of matter and can be used to discover much about a wide range of materials. While a neutron beam facility can help to answer fundamental questions about the nature of matter, energy and the universe, neutron beams can also be applied to the most practical of questions making an aircraft safer or a steel manufacturer more competitive. Neutrons can be used to examine metals, alloys, ceramics, composites, polymers, nano-structures, bio-materials, drugs, foods, liquids, colloids and gels.

CNBC is focused on providing state-of-the-art experimental tools and expertise to the academic community, industry and other government departments. These facilities are part of our national innovation infrastructure, supporting a wide range of research and giving Canadian industry the edge in technological superiority and safety.
