Devices and Sensors at NINT

NINT researchers in the Devices and Sensors theme use integrated knowledge in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Engineering for the development of nanoscale devices. The goal is to lead development of interfaces between the biological and the technological, the nanoscale and the macroscale...

  • At the materials level, researchers develop advanced materials and nanostuctures of tuneable properties through enhanced deposition techniques.
  • At the device level, the researchers use their combined expertise in nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS), chemoresistive materials, plasmonics and nanophotonics to design and implement novel sensor and transduction platforms.
  • At the biointerface level, researchers graft molecular systems onto inorganic surfaces to provide biorecognition abilities to plasmonic, MEMS- and NEMS-based sensing platforms.

The research program is complemented by activities in low temperature physics to support the development of these interfaces through related advancements at the fundamental level.
