The Mass Standards Program establishes and improves traceability of mass and the derived units of pressure, density and gas flow to the Canadian prototype of the kilogram. K74 and its witness, K50, are copies of the platinum iridium International Prototype Kilogram held by the Bureau international des Poids et Mesures.
Comprehensive calibration services are available to clients in industries such as mining and forestry, pharmaceutical manufacturing, shipbuilding and aviation. Engineering firms, calibration laboratories and universities access NRC measurement services, technical assessment and advice.
Design, development, and implementation of equipment, programs, policies, and procedures for dissemination of the kilogram mass unit via the national prototype to industry, government, and university laboratories in support of Canadian legal mass metrology. [More]
Measurement of the derived quantity of density, whose SI unit is the kilogram per metre cubed (kg/m3), in terms of pure water via quartz transfer standards. [More]
Establishment and improvement of the traceability of the SI unit of pressure, the pascal, in support of trade, legal metrology, and industrial and government activities. [More]
The project provides the derived unit of mass flow in the gas phase - the kilogram per second, traceable to national standards. [More]
