Knowledge Discovery

In the NRC Institute for Information Technology (NRC-IIT) Knowledge Discovery program, researchers focus on the research, development and application of techniques to enhance access to information.

The research is driven by the notion that as ever-increasing electronic stores of information become available, so too should intelligent software that is able to find what users need to know.

Knowledge Discovery, also known as Data mining is the process of automatically searching large volumes of data for previously unknown knowledge or patterns such as rules or models that would be interesting and/or helpful for producers of data. Over the last few years there has been a number successful data mining applications and tools developed, all of which have convinced researchers and practitioners to pay close attention to the contents and value of their data.
