Learning and Collaborative Technologies

lctaiia

Learning and collaboration are two facets of the same activity where individuals and organizations acquire, share, and apply knowledge: knowledge cannot be acquired without it having been shared; and it cannot be shared without it having been acquired. Each is necessary to support the other.

Learning and collaboration play a privileged and central role in our lives, and new technologies have greatly extended our abilities to manage and support those capacities. Canada has emerged as a leader in the fields of online learning and collaboration, in no small part because of the investments in research which the Government of Canada has undertaken in the past.

The objectives of NRC-IIT's Learning and Collaborative Technologies (LCT) research program are to use tools and processes to increase the abilities of both individuals and organizations to acquire, share, and apply knowledge. The research program supports the learning and collaborative technologies community in Canada through:

  • the generation of original research;
  • the adaptation of research developed by other agencies; and
  • direct contribution to the learning and collaboration technology cluster in New Brunswick and across Canada.

Within this broadly defined research focus, the Learning and Collaborative Technologies research program's activities fall within the following categories:

  • Learning technologies and support systems
  • Collaborative technologies
  • Interoperability of collaborative and learning systems
  • User and resource usage profiling
