The NRC-IFCI Hydrogen and Alternative Fuels program is advancing the use of hydrogen as an energy carrier through research and engineering projects that are essential to the development of a hydrogen economy. This program is also open to look at alternative energy carriers.
The program is currently focused on the following hydrogen-specific projects:
- Compression - IFCI has developed novel hydrogen compression technology, and is currently working to extend this core technology through partnership with external collaborators.
- Production - IFCI's Hydrogen on Demand project has created a patented process for the creation of hydrogen in high value portable, backup power and safety critical applications.
- Production and Purification - IFCI works with external clients on the reforming and purification of various gas mixtures for the production of hydrogen.
- Sensors - IFCI works on the development and testing of hydrogen sensing systems, including sensor arrays and low cost sensor systems for inclusion in OEM products.
- Fuelling Infrastructure - IFCI is working to establish communications and control systems for hydrogen fuelling stations in collaboration with its collaborators and clients.
- Quality - IFCI works to establish quality control and testing procedures with other government departments and organizations.
