Environment Monitoring Technologies

Air quality is an important issue for Canadians, one that NRC-ICPET is measuring through its EMT program in support of Canada’s Clean Air Act. We develop new techniques and conduct research that measures, at the nano level, the composition of the air Canadians breathe. Eventually, this research can be used to establish more stringent regulations on pollutants and emissions.

NRC-ICPET’s program on environment monitoring technologies is focused on the detection and measurement of:

  • Soot concentration and soot particle morphology through laser-induced incandescence (LII)
  • Combustion derived particulates
  • Gaseous organic compounds and nitrogen oxides
