Clean Energy Technologies

Environmentally friendly energy generation (solar cells and fuel cells) and its associated storage (batteries) are important technology platforms to help Canada reduce its power consumption and related CO2 generation.

NRC-ICPET’s program in clean energy technologies contributes to:

  • The automotive sector, by helping develop safer and higher-energy-density batteries, which can be used for several applications including plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEVs or “hybrids”)
  • Photovoltaic materials research to develop cheaper and more efficient solar cells
  • The National Fuel Cell Program, through our research into computer modeling research (SOFC & PEM stack models) and material science (electrocatalysis, polymeric materials and ceramic materials)
