Flight Requirements

The requirement to render a project airworthy is a significant hurdle. Aircraft are operated in accordance with strict guidelines enacted to reduce the risk of an incident or accident. Unfortunately, many experimenters not familiar with airworthiness restrictions can find the progress of their project delayed or, worse, deemed unacceptable for flight.

This situation can be alleviated if project leaders are able to work with an organization capable of providing airworthiness guidance during the initial design phase of an experiment through to actual flight. Transport Canada deems the NRC Flight Research Laboratory (FRL) an Airworthiness Authority. Engineering, design, electrical, shop, flight and other support staff possess the expertise in-house to render projects airworthy.

Airworthiness experts being included in the initial conceptual design of a proposed project can alleviate unnecessary modifications that are often required in order to comply with the many restrictions associated with aircraft operations. A user-friendly flight support facility focused on airworthiness issues allows experimenters to concentrate on the fundamentals of a particular project.
