We have extensive expertise in end-to-end modelling of adaptive optics, including atmospheric effects, telescope effects and the AO sub-systems, as well as science observations at large, ground-based telescopes.

PAOLA

  • Our in-house IDL analytical tool PAOLA is a fast and convenient way to compute AO-corrected PSFs. It supports both NGS and LGS simulation and can include effects from a segmented primary mirror. Currently, PAOLA is used by more than 30 groups around the world.

Monte-Carlo tools

  • We have experience running CAOS, LAOS (Linear Adaptive Optics Simulation, from Brent Ellerbroek) and François Rigaut's AO Simul software. For situations where accurate telescope modelling is required, we have implemented an interface between NRC-HIA's Integrated Model and CAOS, so that the Integrated Model can produce an AO-corrected PSF.

Turbulence Generators

  • We have experience in building turbulence generators, using either phase screens or hot air, and in measuring turbulence profiles for site characterization.

AO Systems

  • Along with the rest of the NRC-HIA ATRG-V, we have extensive experience and an excellent track record in all the steps required to build scientifically successful and fully automated adaptive optics systems, from conceptual design studies through integration, tests and commissioning.
