Our Research - Programs

NRC-GHI Phase IV

Patient-Specific Virtual Reality Systems for Surgical Oncology

The objective of this program is to develop a virtual reality-based (VR) training system to aid medical practitioners in preparation for complex surgeries and tumor resection, resulting in better trained surgeons, less risk during operations and ultimately, improved patient care and outcome.

Biorenewable Oil for Food and Fuel

The goal of this program is to improve the productivity, yield, oil content and resilience of Canadian canola, in order to meet increasing national and global demands for this vital crop for both food (oil for cooking) and industrial / non-food applications (biofuels).

Heart Disease: Better Tools for Better Treatment

This program aims to develop and test new diagnostic and imaging tools that will improve the treatment and management of heart disease, allowing healthcare practitioners to treat patients earlier, triage evolving heart attacks and offer tools and improved planning for minimally invasive heart surgery.

Biochips for Diagnosis and Understanding of Human Diseases

The objective of this program is to better understand the molecular processes underlying critical pathogenic and genetic diseases, by creating rapid point-of-care diagnostic devices with the capacity to improve both the speed and accuracy of patient treatment.

The Identification of Proteins Targeting the Tumour Microenvironment for Therapeutic and Diagnostic Applications

The goal of this program is to aid patients afflicted with crippling diseases by developing new treatments that combine targeted therapeutic agents with new and efficient diagnostic methods, enabling physicians to adapt therapy to a specific patient to minimize suffering resulting from inappropriate or delayed diagnosis or treatment.
