Canada's Economic Action Plan invests in innovative small and medium-sized firms
June 11, 2010 — Boucherville, Quebec
Mr. Bernard Généreux, Member of Parliament for Montmagny-L'Islet-Kamouraska-Rivière-du-Loup, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), today announced contributions of $524,350 to PerkinElmer Canada Inc. and $480,000 to Clemex Technologies Inc. from the National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program.
The funding supports innovative research and development projects that will assist both firms in developing high-tech solutions for global markets.
"Our government is investing in science and technology to create good jobs, strengthen the economy and improve Canadians' quality of life," said Mr. Généreux. "This government is supporting Canadian firms that successfully develop and apply innovative technologies. Canada's Economic Action Plan is supporting scientific research and commercialization, while creating good jobs and economic growth."
The contribution to PerkinElmer Canada Inc. will support the company in developing a new product line of next generation silicon based single photon counting sensors. The contribution to Clemex Technologies Inc. will assist the firm in developing an innovative medical device for the pre-classification of red and white blood cells, leading to automated blood-formula analysis solutions and better diagnostics – and fewer errors – in the classification of cells in pathological tests.
During the event, Mr. Généreux also presented Canadian Innovation Leader Certificates to Clemex Technologies Inc. and VIASAT Géo-Technologie Inc. to highlight their success as innovative Canadian firms that have successfully linked scientific research to commercialization, jobs and economic growth.
Vaudreuil-Dorion-based PerkinElmer Canada Inc. develops illumination and detection solutions, as well as digital imaging solutions for leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in health, safety and security markets. Clemex Technologies Inc., based in Longueuil, is a leading provider of computerized optical microscopy solutions, providing systems and software for quality control and research laboratories in the healthcare, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, aerospace and automotive sectors.
