News Releases - The Government of Canada salutes Nanowave Technologies for its innovations in telecommunications and radar systems

January 24, 2008 — Ottawa, Ontario

The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Secretary of State (Small Business and Tourism), on behalf of the Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for National Research Council Canada (NRC), today presented a Canadian Innovation Leader Certificate to Nanowave Technologies Inc. at the company's facility in Toronto.

Nanowave designs and manufactures advanced components for communications and radar systems, serving the leading aerospace, avionics, defence and communication systems manufacturers.

"As demonstrated in the S&T Strategy, Mobilizing Science and Technology to Canada's Advantage, the Government of Canada is committed to fostering a competitive business environment that encourages private sector science and technology investments in research and development, advanced technologies, and skilled workers," said Secretary of State Ablonczy. "It therefore gives me great pleasure to join NRC in recognizing a company that uses science and technology to meet its customers' needs."

The Canadian Innovation Leader initiative celebrates the successes of innovative Canadian firms identified by the NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP), which assists innovative Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises in their technology and R&D projects.

"Nanowave Technologies has ably demonstrated that researching, developing and bringing to market new technologies provides Canada with a competitive advantage," said Pat Mortimer, Vice-President, Technology and Industry Support, NRC. "NRC is proud to have taken part in supporting this innovative Canadian company."

Nanowave's amplifiers and frequency converters offer an unsurpassed combination of low-noise, high-power efficiency and reliability.

Nanowave has grown by 30 percent over the last year and has tripled its orders in the last two years. "We seem to have developed a leadership position," explained Nanowave's President, Dr. Justin Miller. "We have been working with NRC-IRAP Industrial Technology Advisors for the past four years, and we have realized several commercially viable R&D projects with their help. We consider this relationship to be highly successful as NRC-IRAP has also assisted us in developing several key business alliances, superior personnel and technology. For years we have worked to develop the highest-quality product on the international market – and with NRC-IRAP's help, we have put Canada on the map in this technology area."

Recognized globally for research and innovation, the National Research Council (NRC) is a leader in the development of an innovative, knowledge-based economy for Canada through science and technology.
