The Minister of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Herb Dhaliwal came for a tour of Chalk River Laboratories on March 23rd 2002. As a recent appointee, the minister was acquainting himself with the Laboratories which are operated by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, a crown corporation which reports to NRCan. The CNBC program leader John Root met with Mr Dhaliwal at the NRU reactor.

The minister heard how the CNBC operates an international facility for neutron scattering experiments. The program grants access to the world-class resources based at AECL's NRU reactor, for academic and industrial users from Canada and around the globe. The minister was shown examples of research which had contributed to scientific progress in Canada, and helped companies improve the performance of materials and components with an eye for public safety and economic impact.
