Universal Targets for Species Identification
Summary
Researchers have developed a strategy to identify and classify organisms using a species-specific DNA target. The invention is based on the discovery of a variable region of chaperonin 60 (cpn60) genes. This method has been validated for a wide range of prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.
NRC-PBI is searching for a commercial partner to further develop this technology for microbial diagnostics in the medical, plant, soil, animal, and environmental fields.
