Researchers at the National Research Council have isolated a hydroxysteriod dehydrogenase gene (AtHSD1) from plants which is involved in the formation of brassinosteroids. Over-expression of this gene results in transgenic plants with significantly greater biomass and vigour, increased seed yield, increased tolerance to salt and a suppression of ABA mediated seed dormancy.
