Accelerating the performance of websites and web-based applications

March 24, 2011 — Vancouver, British Columbia

Strangeloop Networks Inc.

Four short years ago, a team of technology innovators in Vancouver, British Columbia, had an idea to revolutionize the performance and delivery of feature-rich websites without compromising people’s ability to use the website quickly and effectively.

But they needed help to turn their technically complex idea into a commercialized product while at the same time they needed to build their company infrastructure to research, test, build, market and deliver their product.

The National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) and lead Industrial Technology Advisor (ITA), Dr. Rizwan Kheraj worked with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and their management team providing advice about Strangeloop Networks’ technology platform and their financing and put the company in a position to raise over $12 million in angel money. Dr. Kheraj’s ongoing support and expert advice on a range of topics, including intellectual property protection, product development and market focus, as well as his guidance in raising financing and mentorship of the executive team, was critical to the success of this project.

Through the successful and ongoing collaborative efforts established by Dr. Kheraj and his NRC-IRAP team, Strangeloop Networks’ commercialization success has resulted in significant benefits to Canada. Several highly skilled technical development jobs have been created and are located in Vancouver thus harnessing and building the technical competencies of the workforce in Canada. Patents for their innovative technologies have been filed.

ITAs from NRC-IRAP are adding legitimacy to our business every day that they’re involved – that’s hard to buy, Bixby says. By taking a calculated risk on companies whose products have promise and market potential, the National Research Council and NRC-IRAP are instrumental in supporting the entire technology sector in British Columbia.
