CANADEKA – A Bilateral CANADA - SPAIN Program for Technological Cooperation
The CANADEKA program, a result of the partnership with the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), and NRC-IRAP, encourages joint technology cooperation projects between small and medium-sized enterprises in Canada and firms in Spain through industrial research, technological development and innovation.
The program framework stipulates mechanisms for the joint evaluation and financing of technological cooperation initiatives and provides a seal of eligibility to the positively evaluated projects, which will allow them to be financed through the national instruments available in both countries, in accordance with their respective rules and procedures.
Financial Conditions
In Canada, funding is provided as a non-repayable contribution through NRC-IRAP and may cover up to 75% of eligible project costs which may include salaries, subcontracted work and reasonable travel and living expenses to support the international collaboration.
In Spain, funding is provided by CDTI and will be subject to the following conditions:
- Soft credit of up to 75% of the budget of Spanish participation.
- A period of amortization of up to10 years.
- Possibility of a non-reimbursable tranche of 33% of the credit granted by CDTI and at their discretion.
How to Take Part in the Program
In Canada, any interested firm should first contact
Dr. Bill Dobson
Director, Ontario Region, NRC-IRAP
Email: bill.dobson@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca
Tel: 416-954-8330
to register their interest in CANADEKA.
Where a collaborating firm in Spain has already been identified, both firms will be required to jointly complete the Bilateral Application Form (PDF, HTML) which will be jointly reviewed by both CDTI and NRC-IRAP to assess the opportunity. This document will capture an overview of the proposed work, the efforts of both parties, budget estimates and the relevance of the work to Canada and Spain. Once approved by both parties, a full proposal will be requested by the funding parties for due diligence, review and approval according to their respective procedures and guidelines.
Where no collaborating firm in Spain has yet been identified, the firm in Canada may wish to complete a partnering profile (PDF, HTML) which will then be used in Spain by CDTI to seek out and identify potential collaborating firms in Spain. A reciprocal arrangement exists for Spanish firms seeking collaborating firms in Canada.
