The group uses the principles of chemistry and material engineering to make novel engineered architectures that provide transformational changes into various sectors ranging from bio-medical, aerospace to defence technologies. As building blocks, the group fabricates and uses, metallic and semi-conducting nano-crystals, superparamagnetic clusters, and various forms of nano-carbon and nano- boron nitride. The group has significant expertise into the chemical modification the integration of these nano-structured materials into various matrices such as, metal, thermotsets, thermoplastics, ceramics and elastomers. The group also operates a pilot plant facility for the fabrication of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) and boron nitride nanotubes (BNNT) using laser and RF-plasma technologies.
