Climate Change: Mitigation & Adaptation
The complexity of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions teases us all, due to the scale of the problem. No one person, organisation, city, or country can solve the climate change problem, it has to be a worldwide collaborative effort. Changing world climates, and the problems associated with this phenomenon, are very difficult to measure, and very easy to ignore or rationalise away.
NRC-IRC has always been an advocate of a durable and efficient built environment. However the launch of its 2004 vision made sustainability and climate change a major focus area. Research and technology transfer activities will address mitigation of climate change (through energy efficiency and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions) and adaptation to impacts of climate change on the built environment. NRC-IRC will continue to collaborate with other government departments, other parts of NRC, and industry partners on projects addressing national priorities.
