[ NRC-CSIR | Background | Cluster initiative ]

Current Focus
The current focus of NRC-CSIR is on water and wastewater infrastructure, including performance of water mains, failure mechanisms, life-cycle management and risk-based decision making.

NRC-CSIR projects:

NRC-CSIR will be at the heart of an integrated research program with the University of Regina's Centre for Sustainable Communities, the City of Regina, and local industry. All partners will work closely together on projects, maximizing their chance of success.

The creation of the NRC-CSIR in Regina follows NRC's strategy in technology clustering to connect NRC's core research strengths, knowledge and partnership networks with the commercial development and product-oriented activities of industry to produce a winning innovation formula. The proposed research nucleus will serve as the focal point for NRC's Institute for Research in Construction (IRC) urban infrastructure programs and collaborations in Western Canada. It will also serve as a hub for specific research programs and collaborations, offering space to students in Canadian universities and to interns and apprentices from international institutions.

The initiative will also involve close collaborations with a number of University of Regina engineering, science and social science programs. Technical information, financial support, training and mentoring will be provided to firms through NRC's Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) and Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI), so that they might capitalize on new technologies and applications arising from projects that are complementary to the initiative. Knowing that successful clusters are built upon teamwork and a common purpose, NRC has developed a process that takes advantage of local strengths while leveraging its strong national and international capabilities and partnerships.
