The NRC Centre for Computer-assisted Construction Technologies (NRC-CCCT) is exploring how best to apply information and communication technologies to address issues facing Canada's construction industry including:

London

  • the need to improve productivity;
  • changing workforce demographics;
  • growing complexity of built environments; and
  • sustainable development challenges.

As part of the leading construction research organization in Canada, the NRC Institute for Research in Construction (NRC-IRC), NRC-CCCT applies its expertise in fields such as process automation and optimization, knowledge management and dynamic scheduling, as well as a state-of-the-art virtual reality laboratory, to address construction innovation priorities.

Strategic Research Programs

NRC-CCCT has two initial strategic areas for action.

The Process Integration Technologies for Critical Facilities Management and Maintenance strategic area focuses on key infrastructure such as hospitals and transit facilities. NRC-CCCT researchers are creating decision support tools for facility managers to implement more effective maintenance planning and scheduling.

The Interactive Visualisation Tools for the Transfer of Construction Knowledge strategic area is addressing workforce productivity challenges arising from rapid change in materials, technologies and regulations and the need to build the knowledge and skills of people in construction. A first step is to adapt the gaming and entertainment systems found in many Canadian homes for use as learning tools.
