NRC Institute for Marine Biosciences

The National Research Council Institute for Marine Biosciences (NRC-IMB) is one of 19 institutes of the National Research Council (NRC), the Government of Canada's premier research and development organization. Our unique, multidisciplinary approach is focused on marine bioproducts for the discovery, characterization and development of bioactives, natural toxins, functional foods and nutraceuticals. This research is undertaken in three core program areas: Bioanalytical Chemistry, Functional Genomics, and Marine Bioactives.

Our comprehensive suite of life sciences laboratories, coupled with our recently renovated Marine research Station (MRS) on the nearby Atlantic coast, makes NRC-IMB one of the world's most versatile marine research facilities. As such, we serve a pivotal role in the dynamic and growing life sciences cluster in Nova Scotia. Our partners include organizations and individuals from industry, academia, and domestic and foreign government agencies.
