Group Focus: The mandate of the Glycosidases Group is two-folded, firstly to discover improved enzymes that can efficiently degrade plant biomass, and secondly, to apply these enzymes to process plant fibres for various industrial applications. The Team: Dr. Wing Sung, Diana Zahab, Fang Huang, Mark Wood and Dr. Wenzu Zheng Ongoing Research Activities and Projects: - Application of glycosidases to extract plant fibres for bio-composite materials and textiles
- Enzymatic decolonization of the food pathogen Campylobacter jejuni in poultry
- Protein engineering of glycosidases
Partnering Opportunities: We are interested in scientific and industrial collaborators in the following areas: - Protein engineering of enzymes
- Bioprocessing of plant biomass
- Isolation and purification of plant fibres
Expertise and Available Technologies: - Gene synthesis, mutagenesis and expression
- Molecular evolution of proteins
- Enzyme engineering
- Enzymatic extraction and purification of different plant fibres
