Linking Science and Medicine

Research groups at NRC-IBD focus on the development of non-invasive techniques for biomedical applications. Work at the Institute also has a strong focus on the development of better methods for the analysis and interpretation of biomedical data.

Our research activities involve researchers from many disciplines including biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, engineering, medicine, physics, and physiology brought together to create non-invasive approaches to diagnosing disease and monitoring treatment.

Interdisciplinary project teams are established from our six core research and technology groups:

biomedical informatics

Biomedical Informatics

The Biomedical Informatics Group develops and adapts state-of-the-art methods for the analysis and monitoring of complex biomedical data, commercializes the resulting software products and provides information services to NRC-IBD.

cardiac

Cardiac Studies

The NRC-IBD Cardiac Studies Group develops non-invasive spectroscopic and imaging techniques to gain knowledge of cardiac disease processes and develop new imaging modalities suitable for clinical application.

MR R and D

Magnetic Resonance Research and Development

The Magnetic Resonance Research & Development Group advances basic MR hardware, techniques, and software research into the clinical realm to improve the detection, characterization, and monitoring of diseases and disorders.

MR Tech

Magnetic Resonance Technology

The Magnetic Resonance Technology Group develops magnetic resonance techniques and instruments for the diagnosis of human disease and creates protocols for application of these techniques to solve medical and biological problems.

Neuroscience

Neuroscience

The Neuroscience Group develops novel diagnostic methods for neurological and psychiatric disorders using a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating neuroscience, physics, biomedical informatics and medicine.

spectroscopy

Spectroscopy

The Spectroscopy Group focuses on the discovery, development, and exploitation of optical and infrared spectroscopy and imaging methods to improve diagnostic capabilities in the health care of Canadians.
