NRC-IBD is making a very real difference to people’s health by developing non-invasive medical devices and technologies for early and accurate diagnosis of conditions like cancer, stroke and cardiovascular disease. With satellite institutes in Halifax and Calgary, our research network spans the country. Our products and expertise stimulate the local economies, and that of Canada. This is how we are working to change the course and impact of diseases that touch us all.
The technologies being developed at NRC-IBD include magnetic resonance, infrared, optical, and fluorescence techniques. Both imaging and spectroscopic modalities are developed to gain insight into healthy and diseased tissues. Applications of the technologies include various types of cancer, diseases of the heart and brain, and age-related diseases.
NRC-IBD is continuously developing innovative medical device technologies with commercial potential.
Research groups at NRC-IBD perform research in medical diagnostics, focusing on instrumentation and processes for the early, non-invasive diagnosis of a variety of serious health conditions affecting Canadians, such as cancers (breast, prostate, colon), neurological conditions (stroke, Alzheimer’s disease), and cardiovascular disease.
