We regret to advise you that the Covington Fellowship will not be awarded in 2012.

Submitting Your Application

We strongly prefer to receive applications electronically and can read most standard file formats: MS Word, rich-text format (.rtf), ASCII text (.txt), portable document format (.pdf), and postscript (.ps). If you need to send documents in some other format, please contact us at covington@nrc.gc.ca.

Please submit your application materials to covington@nrc.gc.ca, indicating the competition number: 40-10-24. If electronic submission is not possible for you, please see our FAQ for alternative methods.

Letters of Reference

You must also arrange for a minimum of two letters of reference (more are welcome) to be sent directly to us. Apart from your c.v. and research proposal, letters of reference are the single most important ingredient in the review process. These letters should address your suitability for an independent research position and assess your abilities in light of the general characteristics of the Covington Fellowship.

We accept scanned-to-PDF (sent to covington@nrc.gc.ca) or faxed letters of reference, at +1 250-363-8766 (a confidential number). If a referee prefers to submit a letter by mail or courier, please ensure that it will reach us by the deadline.

Deadline

Applicants must have acquired their PhD within the last five years or expect to obtain the degree before starting the Fellowship in 2011. Application should be made by 1 November 2010.

Selection Timeline

We make our decisions in mid-to-late January in order to be able to notify candidates by 15 February, the North American guideline for most astronomy postdocs.

Transcripts

We do not require copies of university transcripts at time of application, but may request them during the selection process. Selected candidates are required to submit official transcripts prior to appointment.
