Bioinformatics at PBI

Bioinformatics

The Bioinformatics Centre at PBI applies Computer Science techniques to the storage, analysis, and exploration of biological research data. Starting with the efficient storage of raw data and proceeding through to the creation of information systems the Bioinformatics group creates, evaluates, and implements systems for extracting knowledge from biological data.

The Bioinformatics Centre focuses on high-throughput informatics solutions for the organization and exploitation of genomics data.

High profile genomics initiatives currently supported include:

DOTM - Genome Canada
Brassica Seed Development - NRC GHI
Natural Plant Genomics Project - NRC CEHH

Bioinformatics at PBI is supported by a robust, high-performance computing platform. A sixty-four CPU Linux cluster provides the core computational resource, complementing dedicated application, web, and database servers. Large volume data is housed on over 15 terabytes of redundant storage.
