A spectrophotometer measures the light intensity as a function of wavelength, most commonly the transmittance, absorptance, or (using a reflectance accessory), the reflectance of a sample at different angles of incidence.
The PE983 is an infrared (IR) spectrophotometer that can measure light from 2 μm up to 40 μm, using a detector developed by Nelson Rowell of NRC and Doug Bevington of Mono Instruments. This double-beam instrument compares the light intensity between a reference and a sample beam and has a reflectance accessory.
