Fuel Cell R&D Facilities

The following R&D facilities can be found at NRC-IFCI:

Fuel Cell Material Preparation

  • TGA (High Resolution TGA 2950, up to 1000 °C, TA Instruments)
  • DSC (Q10 DSC, -180 ~ -500 °C, TA Instruments)
  • Micro Extruder (RCP-0250, RANDCASTLE Extrusion System)
  • Vacuum Oven (ISOTEMP Vacuum oven, Model 285A, maximum 200 oC and 10 -2 mm Hg)
  • Furnace (Barnstead Thermolyne 62700, maximum temperature 600 oC)
  • Ion Exchange Capacity (IEC) titration determination
  • GDE fabrication systems including homogenizers, Spray guns, screen-printing.
  • Coating Catalyst Membrane (CCM) system
  • Hot press machine (Carver Hydraulic Press System)

Material Characterization

  • 2- and 4-probe conductivity cell
  • Temperature/Humdity Chamber (SH240, up to 85 oC, RH 30 to 95, ESPEC)
  • High Temperature Humidity Chamber (variable RH, up to 150 oC)
  • Solatron 1260, Frequency Response Analyser (FRA)

Fuel Cell Testing

  • Fuel Cell Test station (100 W, 10A, 20V, Teledyne MEDUSA RD, Teledyne Energy System Inc)
  • Fuel Cell Test station (800 W, 0~150 A, 50V, Electrochem. Inc.)
  • Available for conventional PEMFC and HT PEMFC (up to 160 oC) testing and DMFC evaluation.
  • Single Cells: 5 and 25 cm 2 active areas
