The Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) is a world-leading, 3.6-metre optical/infrared telescope. Located near the summit of Mauna Kea, a 4,200-metre dormant volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, CFHT began operation in 1979.
CFHT’s mission is to provide for its user community a versatile and state-of-the-art astronomical observing facility that serves the community’s scientific goals and fully exploits the potential of the Mauna Kea site. CFHT is a joint facility of the National Research Council of Canada, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique of France, and the University of Hawaii. CFHT is dedicated to the exploration of the Universe through observation.
