All photographic spectra from the 1.8-m Plaskett telescope (93 000 plates taken 1918–85) and from the 1.2-m telescope (>16 000 plates since 1962) form the DAO plate collection. All digital spectra taken in recent years at DAO are backed up, and also form part of the spectral collection. Additionally the approximately 10 000 spectral plates taken with the 38-cm refractor of the Dominion Observatory, Ottawa from 1905–37 are available.

Observations taken with the DAO telescopes will be released only to the original observer(s) for a proprietary period, which is normally one year after the data were taken; arrangements for a longer ownership period may be negotiated. After this proprietary period, data are considered to be part of the DAO public collection and are accessible to other researchers. Please contact the Telescope Group at HIATelescopesupport@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca for help in locating archival plates or digital spectra.
