Tilt Facilities

Where would you go to evaluate the stability of a heavy tank, truck or a new military logistics vehicle?

What if you needed to find out what caused the roll-over of a fully loaded transport truck?

What facility could measure roll response characteristics for modelling and verification of centre – of – gravity height estimates?

A good answer would be CSTT's Heavy Vehicle Tilt Facility in Ottawa.

Tilt and Tell
Consisting of a hydraulically tilted table, left and right electronic scales for each axle, and an extensive range of instruments to record roll – response characteristics, the Tilt Facility is designed to measure the roll stability and roll characteristics of large, heavy vehicles, at virtually any load level.

Vehicles up to 26.4 metres in length and weighing 130 tonnes can be tilted up to 35 degrees under controlled conditions.

The facility can measure parameters such as rollover threshold, load transfer ratio relationships, triaxial centre of mass location, static wheel – axle loads, and suspension roll centre heights.

Add Simulation and Analysis
CSTT not only measures vehicle parameters, it offers full analysis and computer simulations of heavy vehicle dynamics and performance.

A second tilt table at our Ottawa facility provides equivalent services for smaller vehicles, with high weight concentrations and unusual features.

It all adds up to a cost-effective way to ensure maximum stability for large and small vehicles of every description.
