Events - IAQVEC 2010 The 7th International Conference on Indoor Air Quality, Ventilation and Energy Conservation in Buildings - Streamlining Research: Post-conference workshop

Welcome to the IAQVEC 2010 post-conference workshop entitled "Streamlining Research" set in magnificent Ottawa, the home of the national capital campus of National Research Council Canada.

Workshop objectives:

  1. To facilitate comparability of future research findings through harmonization of study methods;
  2. To enable the inclusion of smaller studies into larger datasets for improved statistical power;
  3. To build on the scientific input of the conference to focus future research.

Workshop structure:

Delegates will be divided between two groups; with one topic per group. To achieve the workshop objectives there will be four discussion sessions:

  • Session 1: Review state-of-the-art in research,
  • Session 2: Identify relevant knowledge gaps, information needed and prioritise for importance,
  • Session 3: Design research approach (i.e. methods, strategies, stud-ies), including funding opportunities to close knowledge gaps,
  • Session 4: Develop conclusions based on sessions 1-3; Objectives for what we want to have resolved by IAQVEC2013; Guidance and coordination.

Workshop deliverables:

A report or journal publication, one per workshop group, will be written to summarize the topics raised and conclusions drawn from the workshop. The delegates in each workshop group will be listed in the respective publication.

  1. Prevention and remediation of indoor pollution due to mould
  2. Distributed personalized environmental control systems
  3. Potential of indoor air cleaning technologies for improving IAQ and energy efficiency

There will be a tour of the capital sights on Saturday, August 21.

  • February 15: Deadline for voting for topics.
  • February 19: Workshop topics published, invitations to workshop distributed
  • March 19: Deadline for accepting workshop invitation and requesting bus travel (Syracuse-Ottawa-Syracuse)

  • Wed, August 18: Travel Syracuse University to Ottawa, Canada.
  • Thurs, August 19:Sessions 1,2,3. Workshop Dinner Reception.
  • Fri, August 20: Session 4. NRCC Facilities Tour. Travel to Syracuse, USA

Syracuse to workshop hotel, Ottawa, ON, Canada:

  • Buses will depart from Syracuse University at 2 pm, to arrive at 6 pm.

NRC, Ottawa to Syracuse Airport, New York, USA:

  • Buses will depart at 2 pm.
  • Expected arrival time at Syracuse Airport is 6 pm.

Accommodation in Ottawa:

  • Rooms for workshop delegates have been reserved at a downtown Ottawa hotel. See www.IAQVEC2010.org for booking.
  • Buses will transport delegates between hotel and the workshop venue.
