The 93rd element on the periodic table is neptunium, a highly radioactive element named after the planet Neptune.
Trace amounts of this element are normally present in uranium ores, although neptunium is best extracted from "spent" uranium fuel rods present in nuclear reactors. The isotope neptunium-237 serves as a component in neutron detection instruments.
