Meitnerium

Named after Lise Meitner, an Austrian physicist who was the first to suggest the notion of spontaneous nuclear fission, meitnerium is the 109^th element of the periodic table.

German scientists synthesized this highly radioactive metal in 1982. Only a few atoms have ever been produced. Meitnerium does not occur naturally, and due to its radioactivity and instability, this element has no industrial applications.
