Calcium

Ninety-nine per cent of the calcium in your body is found in teeth and bones where it gives strength and hardness to these tissues.

When calcium is lost from bones during aging, a disease called osteoporosis occurs. The bones become porous, unable to bear weight, and snap unexpectedly. Researchers at the National Research Council Canada are now testing new treatments for osteoporosis based on one of the natural hormones that controls blood calcium levels.

They hope the new compound will provide an effective treatment for this devastating disease.
