Canis Major is the larger of Orion's two hunting dogs. Canis Major helped Orion chase Lepus, the hare, and battle the great bull, Taurus.
Sirius is sometimes called the "dog star" as it resides in the constellation Canis Major. Sirius is the brightest star in our skies after the Sun. It is 8.6 light years away from Earth.
